Went to John Lewis with my mum for a wonder and saw the camera I wanted for Christmas. It’s an Olympus E-PL1 and it’s about £278, now this is very expensive but only a bit more than my sisters camera plus she has also got a laptop which cost around £300. I have researched camera’s since before my birthday in July and have decided that this one is the one suited best to me. Only to have this time I have spent thrown at my feet when she says “what about the one behind it, it’s £100 cheaper and it’s an Olympus too”… Oh dear god save me from my life. I always choose the cheapest meal at the restaurant, we only went on a proper holiday for one week this summer, I have put off the inevitable summer schools to save money, I ask for less than my parents deem normal for my birthday, don’t go out with friends to avoid spending and haven’t bought clothes that are a) not in a sale, b) under £20, c) given to us from people with older sons that have grown out of their clothes. I try and buy less for my lunches and have been watching any sort of needless spending in the house for about 3 years. Plus spend minimal amounts of money on iTunes and only top up my phone by £10 about every 3-4 months. Also she can’t blackmail in the normal “you don’t clean or help in any way” argument as I hoover, clean and generally freshen up the house on a weekly basis, cook my own dinner almost every night and know how to work every single appliance and piece of technology in the house. I think I deserve a fucking camera as the one I have now has actual film canisters in it (plus my dad gave me a £20 camera as a safety net present 2 years ago that is shite and can’t take photos in the dark/on the move/if you’re having a nervous breakdown) Also just because my sister has an interest in photography does that condemn any younger sibling of hers’ to be cast aside when it comes to their flare for lomography and photography. And considering I act in a manner that could be likened to some sort of angel compared to how some of the spoilt children at my school do. Hollister jumpers and A&F track pants with a Jack Wills t shirt with your iPhone plugged into your mac (also something I desire but will have to some to terms with the fact that I will never ever own one), children who have money splashed down on them, able to pay their way through any dance school no matter how watery their dancing ability or personality…
Anyway, I want a camera that is quite expensive but I think I deserve it. Oh well, there are children in Africa starving to death.
